I just landed in Portland after having a mellow flight home with Jamie. I was stoked to find free internet here at the airport. I had such a good time over in Japan, the JLA tribute show, skating, shredding spring snow. The people are so friendly and the country is really beautiful. Unique mountains and futuristic city skylines, Soba, Sake, Oyaki, Shaba Shabu, Yakiniku, Shochu and Sushi.

I’ve been in Japan for a few days with Mike Parillo  Jamie Lynn, Luke Mitrani, Tyler Flanagan, Ryan Boyes, Nick Hamilton, Neil Goss, Ruiki and Nobu A.K.A. the “ICEMAN”.  We’ve been having a good time… starting things off with a heavy hearted vibe at the “I AM” “Tribute To Jeff Anderson” art show at the Volcom store in Tokyo. I was stoked to see the show and get up to the mountains of Nigata and Nagano.

Since Volcom’s Blizzard Bizarre tour blasted through town, Gigi Ruf, Wille Yli-Luoma, Luke Mitrani and I have been hitting it hard shredding and filming. We’ve had good snow, some sunshine, tram laps and many miles on the snowmobile. Super good times.

This month has been flying by, I’ve been in Canada for the past 2 weeks and will be heading home today. My trip started with a 7 day avalanche course in Fernie. It was amazing and I learned a lot from it. I drove to Nelson after the class got out and spent the past four days up at the Baldface lodge with Lily and Mylo. I sat in on guide meetings, went in the field to do snow study pits, and got in some serious shredding thanks to Jeff, Dem & the guides.  A big thanks to Stella for watching Mylo so Lily and I could get some pow turns together… It couldn’t of been a better trip.

It was a happy new year’s day in Jackson Wyoming now that snow is falling in full force. I shredded the Village this morning and it’s really starting to turn on. New years always seems to have good powder. The forecast looks promising so I’ll keep you posted…

The year winds down with sunshine and mellow riding with friends. Mylos growing like crazy and is becoming more fun to hang with everyday. I guess I’m going to look back at this year as a very special Christmas. I miss my family back in California and wish we could of been together. But times are tight and traveling during the holidays can be really unpleasant. So we had our own little Teton Thai Style family dinner at our home with Sam & Suchada, Ryan, Sunata & Clementine, Willie & Steph, Val, Lily, Mylo and I.

Lily Mylo and I went x-country skiing in the park on Christmas Day. It was nice to get out with the family on such beautiful sunny day. Mylo slept soundly as I dragged him along in his little chariot.

Cold day in Teton Park

Cold day in Teton Park

Makens and I have been getting out on the split-boards a bit lately. Yesterday we had a super cold predawn start. When I left my house it was -2 f, when I picked up John it dropped to -4, and when we arrived at the parking lot it was -18. As we climbed it warmed up but the first hour was a little brutal. We arrived at the top and soaked in the views for bit before ripping a really fun run back to the car.

Until next year… Happy Holidays!

No plan, is a good plan. It seems sometimes keeping things loose results with the best case senarios. With no real plans for the holiday aside for Lily and I hitting up a buffet with Mylo in tow. I desperately wanted to avoid the timely and labor intensive cooking and cleaning regime involved in executing a proper feast. I caught wind Montana had been getting some good early season snowfall and heard it was opening up on thanksgiving. We decided to go with less than 24 hours till the chairs started spinning. We made some phone calls and Willie was down to join us as well as Lily’s friend Hedy and her son who live up in Missoula. We packed light and quickly and were on the road in time. We picked up Willie to join us on our spontaneous mission and we were off in hope of some early season lift access powder. The drive was shorter than I had remembered and we were all very happy to arrive. We stayed at Hedy’s friends cabin. It was a rustic cabin with no running water and I spent the better part of the night waking up to stoke the fire in fear of the women and children freezing in the dark cold of night. We got up early and made it to the chairs just as they opened and walked right on in disbelief. It was a beautiful bluebird day and the snow was glistening in the morning sun…it all was looking incredibly inviting. We made friends with the guys we shared our first chair with and they gave us the low down on where the goods would be. We got off the chair and pointed to the next lift and got right on again with no lines. Halfway up the chairs in front began unloading onto the slopes and lines were drawn in the pristine powder below. We scoped out all the options on the way up, got off and it was on…

Not a bad way to start the season.
